Our growing medium is the ideal substrate for sowing all types of plants and for growing cuttings and young plants. It creates optimum germination and growth conditions and can be used in a variety of ways - whether indoors, in cold frames, in greenhouses or in the garden.

Advantages of growing medium

Fine, loose structure

The grain size is very fine so as not to damage young, sensitive roots and to allow easy rooting.

Good water retention and drainage

The soil stores sufficient water for seedlings, but drains excess water well to prevent waterlogging.

Air permeability & aeration

Sufficient pore volume to allow oxygen to reach the roots - important because young roots react sensitively to a lack of oxygen.

Natural

Mineral additives such as pumice and lava improve the structure and create a natural environment for the plants.

Mineral substrates for healthy plants

Why a special substrate is necessary.

In nutrient-rich standard soil, seedlings would quickly grow too tall ("go to seed") and form weak stems instead of developing a strong root system. The nutrient-poor potting soil forces the plants to root better.

The seedlings are particularly susceptible - a low-germ soil prevents infestation by pathogens right from the start.

The fine structure and loose texture makes it easier for the delicate roots to sprout and prevents young plants from getting stuck or damaged.
